About
Luis Casas
Luis Casas is a ceramic artist that uses bright colors in his work. The inspiration for the sculptures that he creates come from his surroundings. These amorphic sculptures at times can resemble the body and body parts. Once the sculptures are coiled and blended, they start taking more of their form and at the same time, they can start to resemble the body and his environment which he draws from. Luis uses bright color glazes to draw attention to the amorphous sculptures and it is in the viewer's eye to decipher what they see.
During the pandemic, while working out underneath the 101 freeway at the Fitness SF outside gym, he started to look up above into the sky and to what was around him. This incited him to incorporate photography into his art practice.
Luis graduated with his MFA in Fine Arts from California College of the Arts in 2020 during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. He received his BFA from Cal State Long Beach in 2018.
Luis’ ceramics studio is in Oakland, CA, at The Dome.
He currently resides in the Castro neighborhood in San Francisco, CA.
